A. Whitney Advanced Technology Development in VLBI ABSTRACT The world of digital-data transfer and storage is changing rapidly and will undoubtedly have profound effects on VLBI as well. We will examine the current state-of-the-art in tapes, discs and high-speed data communications to try to gaze into the future ways of moving VLBI data from station to correlator. Several Mark IV VLBI correlators are scheduled to come into operational in mid-1999. We will discuss the structure of this international project, design decisions, innovations and implementation. The power of this new correlator system is crucial to the success of the upcoming CORE program, as well as European and American VLBI astronomy programs. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- In Proceedings of the 13th Working Meeting on European VLBI for Geodesy and Astrometry, Viechtach, 1999 Keywords: e-VLBI, Recording, Technology, Correlator
